Destiny Ryan, 18, was arrested early Monday after the Shelton Police Department responded to Shelton High School for a report of a student with a handgun, said Detective Richard Bango.
School administrators were told by students that Ryan was showing what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun in the girl’s bathroom, Bango said.
Shelton officers and detectives, who were already on scene for an unrelated matter, approached Ryan and asked her if she had a gun, to which she replied she did, he added.
Ryan then handed officers her book bag which contained a black BB gun which closely resembled a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The BB gun was loaded at the time, Bango said.
Ryan was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds and breach of peace. She was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on June 4.
